Shelby County Commissioner Willie Brooks teams up with Porter-Leath to Distribute Toys for Preschool Children
Community | December 23, 2020
$10,000 Community Enhancement Grant, provided holiday toys for the over 500 Porter-Leath Preschool children in Shelby County Commission District 6.

Shelby County Commissioner Willie Brooks joined Porter-Leath Covington Pike Head Start staff to distribute toys to over 150 children attending the school on Friday, December 16. In total, Commissioner Brooks provided over 500 children with toys across three Porter-Leath schools in Raleigh. This year, Memphis really showed up for the children of Porter-Leath. We were expecting a 50% deficit with the cancellation of Stumbling Santa, but we covered!

Through its annual Toy Truck drive, Porter-Leath collects toys for over 6,200 children under five years old that are served by Porter-Leath Preschool.

“I am delighted to bring joy to these wonderful children and families in this challenging year," said Commissioner Willie Brooks. "This grant and the toys purchased with it will help the youngest of our community continue to learn, play, and imagine his holiday season. The need is greater than ever this year, and I'm proud to help keep children’s spirits bright in every way that I can."
